How to Design a Sign for your Business
Professional sign design is the first step to making an effective sign for whatever the purpose is that you are looking for. A sign has three major tasks to perform.
1. First, your sign must present your businesses name, clearly.
2. The second task a sign must perform is communicating what your business does.
3. The last, but equally important is for your sign to communicate your contact information.
Next, we will look at the three objectives individually and go through some of the basic thinking about them. The first aspect is to state the name of the business. Know more about this here. Name recognition is essential in all marketing, especially if you are cross marketing by using other mediums, like radio, TV, or newspaper. It is a good idea to tie all of your ads to your name, as long as your customers can find your business when they are looking for it. The design on your sign and business cards should be consistent.
Now let's move onto the next job of your sign. Potential customers will see your sign and learn what your business does. Your business's name might be descriptive of the business they perform. A company named "Jim's Carpets" may not need any further description on their sign, because their name says it all. However, if "Jim's Carpets" sells other flooring options like laminate flooring or tile then we recommend adding something to the sign. The sign could then read, "Jim's Carpets" on the top line and "Tile, Carpet, and Wood Flooring" on the next line. Some people might say that you should leave the carpet off the sign for the second time but it will reiterate what the company is known for.
The contact information should be clear and straight forward. If you are designing an off-site sign, we recommend that you end the sign with a phone number or a website address. If your sign is going to be directly in front of business then you might not need to display the phone number. If your business’ name is going to be put on a marquee at a shopping center, the recommendation is to keep the phone number at a minimum and keep the business URL.
Determining the content and design for your sign is very important, this could possibly mean the difference of success and failure. It is a good idea to consult a sign professional when it comes time to design your business's sign. More about this are explained if you view website. A side note, you need to remember that there is a difference between a "graphic designer" and a "sign designer." You need to consult a sign company that has a designer on staff, then you can go to a graphic designer with your layout.
